PTZ Cameras
PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) security cameras give you full remote control over where a camera looks, letting one unit cover ground that would otherwise take several fixed cameras. Instead of a single locked-in field of view, a PTZ camera pans side to side, tilts up and down, and zooms in optically on a person, vehicle, or license plate in real time, either by manual joystick control or by following a programmed patrol pattern automatically.
Where PTZ cameras make the most sense: large open areas such as parking lots, warehouse floors, loading docks, and building perimeters, where a single fixed-angle camera can't cover the full space. Business and property owners use PTZ cameras to monitor a wide area from one login, while installers often pair a PTZ unit with fixed cameras to get both broad coverage and close-up detail on demand.
What to look for in a PTZ camera: optical zoom range (look for at least 20x-30x for genuine detail at distance, not just digital zoom), pan and tilt speed and range (most PTZ cameras cover a full 360-degree pan and up to 90-degree tilt), auto-tracking or preset patrol tours, and an IP66 or IP67 weather rating for outdoor installations.
